daily stream: don’t look down?
2003’s *The Core* expires on HBO Max (US) in eight days; on Netflix UK
Something hinky is going on with the Earth’s core. Scientists say there’s nothing to be worried about. “[F]ret not,” says The New York Times. “Precisely nothing apocalyptic will result from this planetary spin cycle, which may have been happening for eons.” But we’ve seen this movie before, and that’s precisely what They would say, to keep us all from panicking.
I say that, just to be sure, we should send adorkable scientist Aaron Eckhart and hotshot pilot Hilary Swank in engineer Delroy Lindo’s journey-to-the-center-of-the-Earth capsule to check everything out. Like they do in 2003’s better-than-you-think-it-is sci-fi action adventure The Core. It’s good old-fashioned pulpy, popcorny B-movie fun only with real science and no giant radioactive mutant anythings. Stuff does blow up real good, but not as much as you’d think. Michael Bay and Jerry Bruckheimer could take notes from this one. (Read my 2003 review.)
