daily stream: it plays like Spinal Tap, but this rock doc is the real deal
2009 doc *Anvil! The Story of Anvil* gets a new Region 1 DVD/blu-ray release, and is on Prime/Apple TV in the US, NOW in the UK
Trying something new for 2023: Daily Stream, a really good and/or really fun flick you may have missed, or forgotten about, that’s available somewhere to stream. I’ll try to find ones that are both US and UK, but that might not always be possible. Free for all subscribers, but if you like this, upgrading to paid will encourage me to keep it up!
I’ll also be posting these to Patreon, Twitter, Mastodon, Post, and Facebook, if you’d prefer to get them at one of those services, and I’ll do a once-a-week roundup post at the Flick Filosopher web site. (See below for instructions for turning these particular emails off here at Substack.)
It’s like a real-life This Is Spinal Tap, this wonderfully bittersweet documentary about two Canadian guys who met as teenagers in the 1970s, made a vow to rock out forever together, and have stuck with it through decades of no commercial success whatsoever. 2009’s Anvil! The Story of Anvil features a disastrous would-be comeback tour, an unlikely chick manager, strife within the band, and even a puppet-show-and–Spinal Tap moment. And yes, there’s a concert date in Tokyo. The film just this week gets a new “ultimate” DVD and blu-ray release in Region 1, but it’s also available digitally. (Read my 2009 review.)
US: rent/buy on Prime and Apple TV
UK: stream on NOW
When you rent or purchase a film through my Prime and Apple links, I get a small affiliate fee that helps support my work. Please use them if you can! (Affiliate fees do not increase your cost.)
