January is just about over, and I’ve got one more movie with positive vibes about new beginnings and fresh starts to help blunt the new-year blues.
2007’s The Bucket List might not seem to fit the bill, because this is the movie in which Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman buddy up from their terminal hospital beds to fulfill their end-of-life dreams before they die. This Rob Reiner–directed dramedy may be as predictable and as sentimental as all heck, but it still packs the potent power to remind us that if the life we’re living isn’t everything we’ve hoped for, it’s not too late — even if you’re not dying — to begin to remedy that.
(And oh, you may think you’ve been hearing the term “bucket list,” meaning the list of things you want to do before you kick the bucket, since forever, but screenwriter Justin Zackham coined it for this script.)
