daily stream: Pedro Pascal does a science (fiction) while looking after a kid (again)
2018’s *Prospect* is on Hulu and Kanopy in the US; on Apple TV and Sky Store in the UK
If you’re tempted to catch the Adam Driver–versus-dinosaurs flick 65 at the multiplex, maybe give it a miss. (It’ll make a fine cheap rental, and soon enough.) Instead, check out 2018’s Prospect, one of the “more films like this” I suggested below my 65 review. It’s an infinitely better story about a man and a girl — in this case, a dad and his daughter — on an alien world. They’re on a hunt for mysterious gems that might lift them out of interstellar poverty, but their mission quickly goes wrong. This is smart, gritty-stylish, and — so rare! — working-class sci-fi that is actually about ideas, and about building a future world that is authentic and lived-in. Best of all, Pedro Pascal stars as the dad, yet another example of his apparent dedication to doing science fiction while looking after a kid; see also The Mandalorian and The Last of Us. (Read my review.)
US: stream on Hulu and Kanopy; rent/buy on Prime and Apple TV
UK: rent/buy on Apple TV and Sky Store
