did you enjoy the Daily Screams? should I do more themed Daily Stream recommendations?
plus: how *not* to get the Daily Streams (aka, fine-tuning your subscription)
I’ve had a lot of fun this past month sharing horror-related streaming recommendations with you, and I hope you’ve enjoyed them, too. Reader Dee posted this comment on one of those Daily Scream posts:
I’ve been following your blog for ages, but your horror month picks this month have been my favorite. Horror is my favorite genre and I love the flicks you’re selecting here. Thanks for helping me find new gems!
I love hearing stuff like this! It’s incredibly heartening to know that my work here is appreciated. So I’m genuinely not fishing for compliments when I ask you: Did you enjoy the Daily Screams, and should I do more themed Daily Stream recommendations? The next obvious theme would be festive flicks in December, but that could be only the beginning. Please share whatever thoughts you have.
And a reminder: If you don’t like the Daily Streams but want to receive other stuff from me, you can fine-tune which emails you get in your Substack account settings. Go to My Subscriptions > Flick Filosopher > Edit > Email notifications, then uncheck whichever bits you don’t want by email. (No matter what email settings you choose, you can always read stuff at the Flick Filosopher Substack site or in the Substack app. And, naturally, always at FlickFilosopher.com itself.)
Of course, the very best way to show your appreciation of the Daily Streams and my criticism is to become a paid subscriber (if you aren’t already, and are in a position to do so):
Apart from the good karma you get when you help me pay rent and buy groceries, you also get the full text of each of my new reviews directly in your in-box and in the Substack app, too.
Thank you, as always, for your readership. I wouldn’t be here if not for all you wonderful people.
I loved the theme! I'm no fan of horror on the whole, but I loved it for two reasons : I learned what is good about films I know I can't watch; and I discovered films in the genre that I think I can!
themed daily streams going forward sounds fun, as I am sure you'll recommend things I would have passed by or not even heard of otherwise. I also think an entire month isn't a commitment you have to stick to (note: this is not to say I did not enjoy the whole month, or think themes *should* be shorter). I can imagine, especially with the glut of holiday movies available, shorter periods with perhaps more specific themes? "traveling over the holidays" movies, "movies that occur at christmas that are Not in the Festive Spirit," etc.
really enjoy all you do!
