in the depths (of despair)
everything that happened at Flick Filosopher from Monday, June 7th, to Sunday, June 13th
It was another slow week chez Flick Filosopher. I continue to struggle to re-find my focus. I’m struggling here, right now, trying to find ways to explain what is going on in my head that doesn’t sound like complaining — cuz I’m getting really tired of hearing myself bitch — or making excuses for myself… cuz I know that there are readers out there waiting for whatever I’m going to write next, and there are paying readers at Patreon and Substack who are expecting some new exclusive stuff.
I’m incredibly grateful for all of you, whether you are paying subscribers or not, and I hate the thought of letting you all down.
(True fact: A big reason I started Flick Filosopher way back in 1997 is that I knew that if I had people waiting for me to write something, that would be the kick in the butt I needed to write stuff regularly. I still feel that way.)
Anyway, one small thing that I did find some focus for was going through the movie-kus — movie-related haikus — that I wrote years ago, when I suddenly realized they’d be perfect for Twitter. I’ll be reposting some choice ones on Twitter over the next days and weeks, which you can follow along with via this thread:
Read them all at Flick Filosopher (though be warned: some are quite dated now).
I haven’t penned any new ones yet, but perhaps the spirit will move me soon…

Infinite movie review: whoa no (#ParamountPlus)
Knee-jerk clichés abound in a shameless retread of The Matrix in which many levels of storytelling ineptitude are the only depth on offer. Can Hollywood please stop reincarnating the same old movies? [read the review | streaming on Paramount+ in the US]
