(two) weekly digest: though all from two weeks ago...
everything that happened at Flick Filosopher from Monday, November 27, to Sunday, December 10
So, my little break turned into a somewhat longer break, but I am not stressing about it, promise. *breathe in* *hold* *breathe out*
Prague was absolutely beautiful: cold and snowy and Christmassy.
I slipped on treacherous icy cobblestones and banged up my knees pretty good, and they are now a horrific shade of healing-bruise-yellow and healing-bruise-purple, but no permanent damage there, it seems.
Anyway, back to work, with only myriad Christmas chores to distract me now. *sigh*

Traveling a little, and I am not bringing my laptop with me. This honestly pains me, but I’m doing it anyway. [read more]
Maestro movie review: changing the tune, masterfully (London Film Festival)
Oh, frabjous film! Bradley Cooper’s astonishing high-wire act feels classic and modern at the same time: immersive and impressionistic, breathtakingly bold. A kick in the pants to mainstream cinema. [read the review | cinemas US/UK; Netflix globally Dec 20th]

Godzilla Minus One movie review: the horrors of the past, reconsidered [pictured]
The king of all monsters gets a period-piece reboot, and it’s the closest the series has gotten since to the sincere, unironic horrors of the 1954 original. No comfy escape from terrible reality here. [read the review | cinemas US; UK Dec 15th]

loaded question: what’s a perfect cosy movie for long dark winter evenings?
I love the hygge of this time of year: candles, warm drinks, snuggling under a blanket watching films. But which films to watch? [reply at Flick Filosopher | reply at Substack | reply at Patreon]
what I’m watching and bingeing
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters [Apple TV+ globally]: continues to be provocative fun, and such a perfect companion to Godzilla Minus One
The X-Files [Hulu US/Disney+ UK]: if you haven’t heard about this unexpected collision of streaming and connected Internet fandom, I highly recommend it: “A 25-Year-Old X-Files Mystery Was Solved on Twitter in Less Than 24 Hours”
For All Mankind S4 [Apple TV+ globally]: I absolutely love how Joel Kinnaman’s troubled astronaut is pretty much the cause of so many American space disasters (this is in no way any kind of spoiler, if you haven’t yet caught this series), and it looks like he’s being teed up for another one…
Doctor Who [Disney+ US/BBC iPlayer UK]: finished up the return of David Tennant and Catherine Tate (at least for now! looks like they’ll be back), and I’m mostly loved it; feels nice to enjoy this show again

so sorry to hear about your fall, though Prague looks lovely!
I also was(mostly) delighted by the Tate/Tennant return to DW, and elated to enjoy watching the show once more.
