weekly digest: a cinematic advent calendar, plus good-news / bad-news
everything that happened at Flick Filosopher from Monday, Dec 2, to Sunday, Dec 8
Had a slice of potentially good news recently: there’s a slim chance I may be able to get my knee-replacement surgery in early January. (I’m on standby on one particular day in case someone actually scheduled for that day can’t go ahead with their surgery.) Keeping my fingers crossed for that — I feel like my life is on hold while I hobble around. I cannot wait to be able to walk properly again! I feel like such a lump. My own definitely scheduled slot won’t come up till March, probably, so a two-month jump on that would be amazing.
But also had a terrible thing happen last week: Mister Moo, my lovely feline housemate for the past five years, died on Thursday. He was very old — 15, a goodly age for a Persian — and had led quite a pampered life. But I’m heartbroken nevertheless.
RIP Moo (2009–2024). I’ve had so much loss in the past couple of years, and I really am done with it.

PS: Thanks to everyone who joined my online Zoom chat about Chariots of Fire last week. If you missed it, it will be available as a YouTube video at some point in the near future. I’ll let you know when that happens!

Nightbitch movie review: live, bark, love [pictured]
Replaces the novel’s rage with gentle comedy, biting its tongue and undercutting its protagonist. Still, mundane truths about women’s realities that rarely get public airings are on welcome display. [read the review | cinemas US/UK]

what I’m watching and bingeing
Silo S02 (Apple TV+ globally): I’ve now finished S02, thanks to Apple TV’s press platform, and I hate that that means I have even longer to wait than the rest of you for S03; this show is totally gripping, and S02 ends on multiple cliffhangers.
Station Eleven (Max [via Prime] US, Prime UK): it feels like the right time to give this stunningly good series — about life going on after a civilization-ending global flu pandemic — another go; can’t imagine what made me think this… 🤔
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (Paramount+ [via Prime] US, Netflix and Paramount+ [via Prime] UK): I’m into S02, and continue to enjoy my rewatch; many, remember when TV seasons were really long…
