Ugh. Summer. I hate it. It’s too hot and sticky to think.
Stay cool…

The Princess documentary review: look back in anger
A portrait of Diana’s depiction in the press that is incendiary, incisive, and transfixing. A litany of horror, in retrospect, and an incredibly valuable look at how public stories are shaped by media. [read the review | streaming on HBO Max US, Sky Documentaries UK]
Wild Men (Vildmænd) movie review: mild men, more like
This Danish black comedy is a meandering exploration of masculinity in the 21st century, and though it’s more miss than hit, it’s charming and bittersweetly heartfelt in its bumbling and bungling. [read the review | VOD US/UK]
loaded question: do you think the cancelled Batgirl movie will ever see the light of day?
Is this the death of streaming? Is this the end of superhero movies? Is it just a glitch in the pop-culture Matrix? In what way might the film ever get released? [reply at Flick Filosopher | reply at Substack | reply at Patreon]
what I’m bingeing
Only Murders in the Building [Hulu US; Disney+ UK]: Didn’t get back to this in the past week, but that only means I’ll have two episodes to devour this week…
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds [Paramount+ globally, via Prime Video US/UK]: The Season 1 finale only just dropped in the UK (weeks behind the US) and, ooo, an appearance by James Tiberius Kirk! Paul Wesley in the role is very different — a lot more subdued — than Shatner (or Pine), but of course this is in an alt timeline, so maybe different experiences toned Kirk down? Can’t wait to see where this goes (Kirk’ll be back in Season 2, apparently)…
