weekly digest: a new Michael Bay movie and a stonking head cold lay me low...
everything that happened at Flick Filosopher from Monday, March 28th, to Sunday, April 3rd
I continue to be wildly behind on everything, this past week thanks to the massive head cold that struck me down. (My eight-year-old housemate brought it home from school. I’ve been really good about continuing to mask even though almost everyone else is tossing them away, but even I’m not masking at home.) Two lateral-flow and one PCR test all concur that it’s not COVID — *whew* — but it’s still the worst cold I’ve had in I cannot remember how long. Whatever bug this is finally seems to be in retreat, though, so maybe this week is the week I get in gear again. Two years is too long to be feeling out of sorts like I have been, and I’m tired of it.
Hope you’re all keeping as well as possible in our deeply trying times…

Ambulance movie review: dead on arrival
A screaming deluge of metal and rubber devoid of drama, suspense, and elegance. Instead it’s random vehicular chaos enacted with the same energy of a four-year-old smashing his toys into one another. [read the review | UK cinemas now, US Apr 8th]
loaded question: what’s your favorite Oscar Best Picture?
I haven’t even seen this year’s winner, CODA, yet, so that one can’t be my answer… [reply at Flick Filosopher | reply at Substack | reply at Patreon]

what I’m bingeing
Call My Agent! Season 2 [Netflix globally except in Austria, Spain, Germany, and Portugal, for some reason]: got through all of Season 2 this week — they went to Cannes Film Festival! — and raring for more…
Picard Season 2 [Paramount+ US; Amazon Prime UK]: so many easter eggs in this episode; almost all easter eggs, in fact, but any appearance by Brent Spiner is catnip to me
Moon Knight [Disney+]: can’t exactly binge, since this is another one-ep-a-week show; I adore Oscar Isaac and he’s clearly having fun with this (I’m loving his English accent)
Bridgerton Season 2 [Netflix globally]: this is excellent sickbed viewing, perfect comfort TV, so I got a few eps in; great fun
