weekly digest: a whole lot more cinematic Advent calendar
everything that happened at Flick Filosopher from Monday, Dec 16, to Sunday, Dec 22
The year is winding down, and all I want for Christmas is to get my mojo back.
I can’t believe I’ve spent *counts on fingers* umptity months now telling myself, Okay, this is it. This past week somehow disappeared in a fug of anxiety and doom-spiraling, but next week I’m gonna knuckle down and get some shit done.
And then it ends up just another week of anxiety and doom spirals.
I think I need to ask Santa to get me a redosing of my HRT, cuz these hormones in a jar ain’t doing enough…
In the absence of any new reviews to feature, below find the still from one of my Advent-calendar picks. You’ll have to click through all the little virtual doors to find out which movie it is, and why it fulfills a heartfelt holiday wish. I think it’s a film that isn’t well remembered, so hopefully it’s not too easy to guess.

PS: One small thing I did accomplish this week is getting my 2024 ranking of the year’s films up to date. There’s lots I still need to see, and I’m gonna try to get to some of them this week — watching movies and thinking about them has been a little easier than actually sitting down and writing about them — but at this precise moment, the ranking is current. Whew!

what I’m watching and bingeing
Silo S02 (Apple TV+ globally): I’ve now finished S02, thanks to Apple TV’s press platform, and I hate that that means I have even longer to wait than the rest of you for S03; this show is totally gripping, and S02 ends on multiple cliffhangers.
Station Eleven (Max [via Prime] US, Prime UK): it feels like the right time to give this stunningly good series — about life going on after a civilization-ending global flu pandemic — another go; can’t imagine what made me think this… 🤔
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (Paramount+ [via Prime] US, Netflix and Paramount+ [via Prime] UK): I’m into S02, and continue to enjoy my rewatch; man, remember when TV seasons were really long…
