weekly digest: animated mayhem suitable for kids and adults alike
everything that happened at Flick Filosopher from Monday, April 4th, to Sunday, April 10th
Just a reminder that just because it’s a new week and I’ll be posting a new Loaded Question later today that previous questions are still open for your comments. I am definitely still interested in getting as much feedback as possible on last week’s question — What does film criticism mean to you in 2022? — so if you haven’t already, please do reply at Flick Filosopher, at Substack, or at Patreon.
Thanks, and hope you have a great week!

The Bad Guys movie review: criminally fun [pictured]
A snappy, snarky, never-ever sentimental concoction of cartoon chaos meets hip heist flick. Its breezy swagger extends to the delightful animation, organic and mellow, hot and cool at the same time. [read the review | UK cinemas now; US April 22nd]
loaded question: what does film criticism mean to you in 2022?
What are you looking for in film criticism now… and are you finding it? Do critics still matter, and if so, in what ways? [reply at Flick Filosopher | reply at Substack | reply at Patreon]
what I’m bingeing
Call My Agent! Season 3 [Netflix globally except in Austria, Spain, Germany, and Portugal, for some reason]: the first episode of Season 3 features Jean Dujardin sending himself up, in case you need an incentive to watch this…
Picard Season 2 [Paramount+ US; Amazon Prime UK]: still enjoying…
Moon Knight [Disney+]: still enjoying…
Bridgerton Season 2 [Netflix globally]: still enjoying…
Old Enough! [Netflix US/UK/maybe other regions?]: my new obsession is this Japanese reality show in which extremely young children, some under 3, run errands like shopping for groceries or dropping off dry-cleaning; the kids are well protected and in no danger, and not just because of the structure of the production: the whole neighborhood helps and looks out for them; it’s incredibly adorable seeing the confidence boost it gives the kids; super-brief episodes (10–12 minutes) make it easy to dip in and out of (though it’s so addictive you might watch a lot at once)
