weekly digest: slow times for me in the pre-Oscar doldrums
the little bit that happened at Flick Filosopher from Monday, February 06, to Sunday, February 12
I’m still not back up to speed the way I’d like to be, but I want to be sure you all know that I am absolutely working on it! I think this coming week will see me being more productive than I have been. There is so much I have to do, so much I have to say, and… I’m trying to get there.

Magic Mike’s Last Dance movie review: hustle and grind
Do you find Channing Tatum dance-grinding appealing? There’s not much of that here. There’s just the tedious grinding of dragging out yet another sequel in the face of diminishing franchise returns. [read the review | cinemas US/UK]
loaded question: what’s a movie that’s crammed with clichés but feels like it isn’t?
(I don’t think that Logan, pictured here, is crammed with clichés, by the way, but that’s a great image of the visual cliché of the hero walking away from an explosion.) [reply at Flick Filosopher | reply at Substack | reply at Patreon]
what I’m bingeing (or not…)
The Last of Us [HBO Max US, Sky/Now UK]: I’ve never played the game, so I have no previous investment in this, but I love a good apocalypse story, and I especially love a story that deals with apocalypse in the long term, how the world reshapes itself afterward, which this one is doing very well so far (I’m a few episodes in)
Ted Lasso [AppleTV+ globally]: finished Season 2! I love this show so much for how it overtly approaches men’s emotional lives and friendships
Old Enough! [Netflix globally]: didn’t get back to this in the past week

I'll be very interested to see what you have to say about Skinamarink, particularly after your review of Last and First Man stated that you're not into experimental film.
