weekly digest: streamings greetings...
everything that happened at Flick Filosopher from Monday, December 6th, to Sunday, December 12th
Feels like my COVID funk — which has of course come roaring back with the arrival of omicron — kept me from doing much this week. But in fact, my curmudgeonly movie lover’s unpleasant Advent calendar is in full swing, and, for paid subscribers, I’ve been recommending a different fun and/or classic holiday movie to stream every single day. You can get those in your in-box via Patreon or Substack.
True, I did not post a single review this week, but I’ve made a good start writing up my thoughts — which are… whew! — on the new British apocalyptic dramedy Silent Night (maybe I can even get that posted today), and I will have more reviews later this week. I hope to start getting to the “festive cheese” movies, too — those are sure to be a mood booster. Bad movies can be fun!
But the reality is that I’ve cancelled my RSVPs to two in-person press screenings I really wanted to get to this week, and I’m going to be wary about going to public cinema showings again for a while. It’s tough for me to relax and enjoy a film — never mind trying to focus on it critically — when I’m anxious about breathing in the virus (even masked and vaccinated). But worrying about whether I’m being too overly cautious and worried is stressing me out, too! But I do figure it’s better to err on the side of safety.
Fortunately there are tons of interesting, intriguing, and potentially great new films streaming now and coming to streaming soon, so there’s no end of stressing about all the movies I can still cover. Ack.

loaded question: what movie do you most associate with winter that isn’t a Christmas movie?
