I usually post a new Loaded Question on Monday, but here it is on Tuesday. Because yesterday was a holiday in the UK — I live in London — and I am trying to be better about carving out a little bit of downtime for myself (which is extremely difficult when you work for yourself!). Except now today feels like Monday, so I’m all temporally discombobulated. In honor of this:
What are your favorite movies that mess with time?
A little-watched gem is 'Predestination' (2013), directed by the Spierig brothers and starring Ethan Hawke. It's based on a marvellous short SF story, 'All You Zombies', by Robert Heinlein who also wrote the story on which 'Starship Troopers' was based. Hawke plays a Temporal Agent going back in time to prevent crimes before they are committed. I'm sure you can guess whose crime he ends up having to prevent...
Although I’m a big Terminator fan, still think about 12-monkeys as one of the best for this genre. It’s always described as ‘flawed’ in the TV guide, but there’s something haunting about the finality of the ending.
