weekly digest: only a couple of links, but also announcing something new(ish)
the little bit that happened at Flick Filosopher from Monday, January 9, to Sunday, January 15
My reboot was off to a slow start last week (partly because of a non-movie-related freelance editing job that took up a lot of time), but I’m happy to announce that I’ve just today started to get back to my streaming recommendations. Instead of the once-per-week Weekend Watchlist, featuring multiple movies — which I’d been doing since last January but had to put on hiatus in the wake of my mother’s illness and death late this past summer — I’ll be recommending one movie every day.
These recommendations will appear both here at Substack — here’s the first one, which went out earlier today — and at my Patreon, and in truncated forms at Twitter, Mastodon, Post, and Facebook. I’ll also do a once-a-week roundup post at the Flick Filosopher web site, which will, of course, be linked in each Weekly Digest email.
If you don’t want to receive these daily emails — I get that it might be too much cluttering up your in-box — head over to your Substack account settings. Go to My Subscriptions > Flick Filosopher > Edit > Email notifications, then uncheck whichever bits you don’t want to receive by email. No matter what email settings you choose, you can always read stuff here at the Flick Filosopher Substack site. You can also read everything on the Substack app, available for iOS and Android, if you’d prefer.
These daily streaming recs will be free for everyone immediately, unlike the Weekend Watchlists, which were for paid subscribers only for the first month, then free for everyone after that. If you’re not already a paying supporter, either here or at Patreon, and would like to encourage me to keep these new daily streaming recs coming, please consider upgrading your subscription to paid.
Flick Filosopher had its 25th anniversary this past September, and I’d love to keep going for another 25 years! Because I don’t accept ads, sponsored posts, and the like, only you, my generous readers, can keep me going.
Thank you, as ever, for your support, whatever form it takes.
More soon…

loaded question: what’s the worst movie you saw in 2022?
I’m thinking specifically about 2022’s new releases — streaming only or actually in cinemas — but if there’s a mega-stinker from earlier years that you saw for the first time in 2022, I’ll take that, too. [reply at Flick Filosopher | reply at Substack | reply at Patreon]

Slow TV week for me, too:
Ted Lasso [AppleTV+ globally]: got a new stationary bike for exercising at home, and I watch an episode per workout; it’s strangely appropriate
